Thursday, 14 December 2023 – Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), through the Halalan Thayyiban Student Society (HTSS) from the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre (HTRC) organized a virtual forum.
This forum was an effort by HTSS to carry out collaboration with the Ikatan Siswa Siswi Akademi Halal (ISWAH) from the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Samarahan Campus, Sarawak.
The organizing of this forum is also in conjunction with the Day of Action Campaign and the International Volunteer Day Celebration, initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. This forum discussed issues and challenges to maintaining the halal industry, which has been growing and gaining community attention.
Among the objectives to be achieved by implementing this program is to support the government’s initiative in holding programs or activities in conjunction with the Day of Action Campaign. Furthermore, this forum enables students to study current issues related to the sustainability of the halal industry from various perspectives and apply the concept of “Quality of Education” found in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Attending the forum as the Guest of Honor was Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah Pengiran Haji Hashim, who is the Director at the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre, UNISSA. In addition, academic staff and students from both universities were also present to listen to the
forum.
According to her, achieving a sustainable future involves a collective effort from individuals, communities, businesses, and governments, and she believes with this forum initiative, our younger generation will have the opportunity to pitch their creative and innovative ideas toward these goals, giving their opinion on innovations and commitment to build and manage halal industry towards a more sustainable future.
“I’m confident that this program will provide a platform for our students, particularly those participating tonight, to gain knowledge and encourage them to become critical thinkers. Aside from that, I believe this event will promote a study and research environment among panelists to generate excellent, innovative and creative ideas that align with the country’s aspirations for the development of the halal industry as well as maslahah for the ummah.” – Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah Pengiran Haji Hashim
