HALAL SCIENCE WEEK PROGRAM STRENGTHENS THE ROLE OF THE UNISSA STUDENT BODY

Monday, 19 February 2024 – Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the Halalan Thayyiban Student Society (HTSS) from the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre (HTRC) held the launching ceremony for Halal Science Week (HaSWeek) which was located at the UNISSA Sinaut Campus in Tutong. Concurrently, this program will take place within one week from February 18, 2024 to February 26, 2024.

Present as guests of the ceremony during the launch of HaSWeek was the Director of the Thayyiban Halal Research Center, Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim, along with several academics, staff and students at the Centre.

The main purpose of this program is to jointly support the efforts of the university and Brunei Darussalam towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) focusing on SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being, SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Among the programs of this Halal Science Week is the operation of several programs inside and outside the Sinaut campus, UNISSA namely the 10,000 Steps Day Leisure Program, the ‘Thrift’ Project, Halal Industrial Food Management Demonstration, Youth Forum: Youth Led Initiative for Sustainable Development Goals, Workshop Soap Making, and will end with the camping activity ‘Halal Science Camp’ located at Bintudoh Greenspring Resort, Kampung Lamunin Tutong. This camp is also organized in conjunction with the National Day Celebration in conjunction with Semarak Hari Kebangsaan Sempena Ulang Tahun Hari Kebangsaan Negara Brunei Darussalam Kali Ke-40, Tahun 2024.

The objective of this program is also to guide and produce a generation of visionary youth who think critically are resilient and able to lead toward the future to be able to achieve the country’s vision and mission. Apart from that, it can inspire the youth to engage in all youth development activities such as leadership, volunteering, religion, and sports.
