Bandar Seri Begawan, Saturday, 23 August 2025 – The Faculty of Islamic Development Management (FPPI), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), successfully organised a Distinguished Lecture programme featuring two renowned international Islamic scholars in two separate sessions held on Saturday, 23 August 2025, corresponding to 29 Safar 1447H, at the UNISSA Auditorium.

The programme commenced in the morning with a lecture delivered by Yang Berbahagia Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar, a distinguished scholar in the fields of Islamic philosophy and epistemology. He presented a lecture titled “Applying Tawhidic Epistemology to Development Management,” which explored the importance of a Tawhid-based epistemological approach to development management and its implications for holistic human and societal development in the Islamic context.

In the afternoon session, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr. Afifi al-Akiti, Academic Fellow at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, delivered a lecture titled “Holistic Human Development in Islamic Civilization: Nurturing the Mind, the Body, and the Soul.” His presentation emphasised the significance of balanced human development—intellectually, physically, and spiritually—aligned with the values of Islamic civilisation.

The event was attended by senior officers, academic staff, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students (from Year 1 to Year 4) of FPPI. It also included the participation of first-year students from various faculties across UNISSA.

The Distinguished Lecture series is one of FPPI’s key initiatives in supporting UNISSA’s aspiration to become a centre of excellence in Islamic knowledge. It also aims to uphold Islamic-based development approaches and serves as a vital platform for enhancing scholarly discourse and broadening intellectual perspectives among academics and students alike.
