Abstract

In Brunei, the Halal industry is not just focusing on food and beverages but also attempts to bring forward on other sectors including pharmaceutical, cosmetics, finances, tourism and media and entertainment. The establishment of Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre is an initiative disseminating and developing halal awareness in the society. One of the objectives of this research centre is to offer academic programmes in the field of Halalan Thayyiban. As this programme is still new and Halal industry is still developing in Brunei, this raises concern among the Halal graduates as their career path is still unclear and in need of guidance. In addition, the rate of unemployment in this country especially among youths is quite high. Therefore, this study aims to achieve three main objectives. Firstly, to provide an overview of Halal Media and Entertainment in Brunei. Secondly, to identify the challenges and opportunities in developing Halal Media and Entertainment in Brunei. Thirdly, to explore the job opportunities and career path available for Halal Science graduates specifically in Halal Media and Entertainment industry. To achieve these objectives, a semi-structured interview is conducted to assess employer’s suggestions on potential careers available in this sector. The process of search and data collection was also done by analyzing all the resources and materials related to the topic such as reviewing research paper, book, journal and articles as secondary sources. The finding of this study indicates that Halal Science graduates have higher chances to secure their job and career in private sectors compared to the government sectors. Some of the positions they may apply such as script supervisor, producer, part of censorship board in MOHA, part of Media team in Pusat Dakwah Islamiyah, religious officer, certified Islamic preacher, lecturer and etc.
