It marked the first-ever coronation of a Malay ruler, Sultan Abu Bakar. The coronation was an innovative idea of Sultan Abu Bakar to confirm his legal status and enhance his sovereignty, and to modernise Johor. Since then, the Sultanate of Johor has celebrated two more such ceremonies, the coronation of Sultan Ibrahim in 1895, and that of Sultan Ismail in 1960. The coronation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim on 23rd March 2015 after a long-awaited 55 years gave the people of Johor reason for a glorious celebration. His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim did not fail the expectations of his people. He insisted his coronation to be an exclusive affair and to be etched in history. The coronation is to embody, preserve and reaffirm the various Malay and Islamic royal court traditions and rituals practised by his royal forefathers. A touch of modernity like the royal pictorial exhibition to showcase the history of Johor royals and their heraldry is included. The following chapters form a concise journey through the entirety of the majestic event, and an attempt to provide intimate knowledge and appreciation of the institution of royalty ER -
