One of the criticisms directed at previous works of interpretation is that these books became a kind of arena for the author to show off his skills in the discipline in which he specializes. Thus, these books seem complicated and filled with technical terms that are not necessarily needed by the general public. What they really need is an understanding of the Qur'an as a book of guidance that guides them towards happiness in this world and the hereafter. Therefore, interpretation must be oriented towards guidance and should be delivered in a language that is easily understood by the general public. In order to improve the understanding of the Muslim community towards the Qur'an, the Ministry of Religion has compiled two books, namely the Qur'an and its Translation in Indonesian (1 Volume) and the Qur'an and its Interpretation (11 Volumes). Although both are one unit, the comparison between the two is very contrasting. The first book seems very concise and forced as a translation, while the second book seems too broad and far from the reach of the general public. Seeing this reality, the Ministry of Religion then saw the need to compile a book of interpretations that mediate between the two. The form of the description is slightly broader than the Qur'an and its Translation but not as broad as the Qur'an and its Interpretation. With this effort, it is hoped that the messages of the Qur'an can touch all levels of society. That is the Brief Interpretation, a book that is now in the hands of our esteemed readers.
