This project involves the establishment of fast growing species after all commercial timbers have been harvested from logged-over forests. A total of 500,000 ha of land area has been planned for forest plantation establishment by the year 2000. To date, a total of 90,000 ha has been planted with Acacia mangium, Gmelina arborea, and Paraserianthes falcataria on a 10-15 year rotation in the states of Johore, Pahang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Kelantan, and Terengganu (KPU, 1989).
