Agriculture and agro-industry in Brunei Darussalam are entering a new era of development. Motivated by the need to diversify and the desire to be self sufficient in major food items, the Department of Agriculture has been active in promoting and facilitating private sector involvement in agro-industry. The establishment of East ASEAN Growth Area will liberalise inter-ASEAN trade and open the huge market base for economic development. The vast geographic frontier is rich in raw materials and the large pool of human resources offer opportunities for agricultural production, processing and other downstream activities. The business communities in Brunei Darussalam are now geared to take advantage of the trade liberalisation to invest in and collaborate with investors to utilise the vast resources to propel agro-industry development within the country and in the BIMP-EAGA. This publication is an attempt by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the agricultural business communities to present the opportunities available for private sector investment in the area of agro-industry. It is also a source of ideas and innovations that may be useful for investors to venture into crops, livestock and food processing in Brunei Darussalam. Many people, both from the public and private sectors, assisted in the publication of this book by providing information, data and statistics. The strong support from the business communities, especially the advertisers, is greatly appreciated. Without their contribution, the publication of this book would not be possible. Thank you very much.
