Fisheries plays a vital role in the socio-economic development of all ASEAN countries. One of the limiting factors that hunder countries in the ASEAN region from expanding their food fish production is the failure to practise post-harvest technology. Aware of this, the Canadian Government conferred with ASEAN in 1976 and this led to the setting up of the ASEAN-Canada Fisheries Post-Harvest Technology Project which entered a second phase in 1992. Under the Project, the Philippines conducted a pilot project (PP-Philippines) activity on the development and improvement of value-added surimi-shrimp breaded products including the application of Good Manufacturing Practises (GMP).
