Brunei's forests are potentially her most permanent natural asset. In order to make best use of them we must first of all discover the kinds of timber tree in them, and their abundance; this known, a plan can be drawn up for the efficient exploitation and regeneration of the forests so that they will remain a perpetual source of revenue.

This book provides an answer to the first problem. in it are described the one hundred and fifty-four kinds of tree in the Kaum Damar, or Dipterocarp family, that are found in Brunei, how to recognise them, their abundance, and where they are to be found. They are the most important timber trees we have, and by conserving the forests in which they grow we guarantee a reward now and in the future for ourselves and our children. |
