Abstract
The topic of women's blood is frequently discussed by scholars, however many women and men nowadays continue to hold misconceptions regarding issues concerning the discharge of blood from a woman's vagina, especially Istihadhah. Hence, this academic exercise aims to examine and understand the level of public comprehension in this country regarding Istihadhah, while also offering in-depth insight into the matter. To achieve the objective of this study, the methodology used in this academic exercise is inductive and analytical approaches by reviewing old and new Islamic jurisprudence books and relying on the relevant information of other article, a questionnaire was also conducted and distributed to 50 individuals in Brunei Darussalam through the “Google Forms” platform to assess and analyze their understanding of Istihadhah. This academic exercise will address 3 types of women's blood that frequently raise uncertainty among women namely Haidh (menstrual blood), Istihadhah (irregular bleeding) and Nifas (postnatal bleeding). These will be briefly introduced, followed by a deeper exploration of Istihadhah and the viewpoints of Islamic jurists regarding the legal aspects involve. Based on the findings of this study shows that nearly 80% of respondents are familiar with the definition of Istihadhah. However, there is still considerable confusion among many regarding its legal implications particularly concerning situations where a husband divorces his wife during Istihadhah, with approximately 66% of respondents acknowledging their uncertainty about this legal matter. Hence, the researcher suggests that rulings on religious duties for women especially blood should be made as a special syllabus in school and taught from the beginning.
