Abstract
Thrift business involves the buying and selling of used, old, or discarded items. However, questions arise as to whether this trade complies with the conditions & pillars in Islamic law. Therefore, this study aims to identify the extent to which thrift sales align with Shariah law in Brunei Darussalam. To achieve this objective, the study relies on three research methods. The first method is a descriptive approach, where the researcher gathers information from direct and indirect sources and references such as fiqh literatures and other relevant sources. Additionally, the researcher collects information through interviews conducted with four selected thrift shops in Brunei and Muara district. The second approach is an analytical approach, which involves analyzing the information obtained from the interviews. The final method is to examine buying and selling processes in the four respective thrift shops, where they will be observed and evaluated. One of the main findings of this study is that the sale of used clothing in thrift shops in Brunei Darussalam complies with the conditions and pillars of Shariah-compliant transactions. However, it was noted that some shop owners do not adhere to the option rights (Khayãr).
