Abstract
Engagement is the initial step before entering the world of marriage. It is a phase where men and women have the opportunity to get to know each other more deeply. Engagement in the context of Islam differs from engagement in the context of tradition. There are several laws related to engagement that are not well known by the public. Therefore, this study aims to solve legal problems related to engagement. This study consists of three chapters, First: Engagement from the perspective of Islamic, Second: Rulings related with engagement, and Third: Engagement from the perspective of traditions and its application among the Brunei society. Furthermore, this study uses a descriptive approach, a survey conducted through a 'google form', statistics, and cases discussed in the Sharia Court, as well as interview sessions with three engaged individuals. Among the main findings of the researcher through this discussion is that the researcher found that there are some people who are unaware, do not understand, and there are also some who misunderstand the laws related to engagement. Therefore, the researcher believes that an educational program about these laws needs to be developed to increase awareness among the public.
