Abstract

The art of music has become a favorite pastime for many, yet the law regarding music remains a topic of debate among scholars. Some permit it if it does not violate Islamic principles, while others strictly prohibit it. Music is an activity greatly influenced by the spread of Western culture, leading many people to engage in music activities that contradict Sharia teachings. This research aims to assess the extent of awareness or understanding among the people of Brunei Darussalam regarding music from the perspective of Islamic law, and their knowledge of the Mufti of Brunei's fatwa on music. The method used involves data analysis and conclusions. The research findings show that the majority agree that music is permissible if it does not violate Sharia law, but the majority are unaware of the Mufti of Brunei's fatwa on music.
