Abstract
Debt in Arabic is Ad-Duyun/ Al-Dayn which is part of the matter of muamalat. Where this debt is one of the matters that are required and not allowed in Islam according to certain circumstances. So, this study examines the extent to which the people of Brunei Darussalam understand this debt, which has become a habit of individuals or communities to misunderstand about debt, especially in financial transactions. The importance of this issue is taken very seriously, so that the community is more sensitive about the good and bad of this debt and can directly expand the knowledge about it. This research method is carried out by referring to books, articles, papers, journals, and online questionnaires that focus more on all people who live in Brunei Darussalam only. The objective of writing is to give awareness and the importance of debt that should be ranked early, especially for school students and institutes of higher education including for the public i.e. the community of Brunei Darussalam that debt is an act that is not encouraged because it is feared that it will cause harm. The findings concluded that most respondents, which is more than 50% of their understanding of debt in Islam, and this study is expected to contribute to an increase in understanding about it. Although it looks simply, it can give a big impact in increasing the public's awareness of Islamic finance in a practical way.
