Abstract
This thesis investigates the fatwas issued by Dr. Yusuf al-Qardhawiy regarding women and their implementation in Brunei Darussalam. The study focuses on three main fatwas covering issues of female circumcision, women's employment, and the protocol of greeting for women. Additionally, fatwas from the Brunei Royal Mufti and the views of scholars from the Shafi'i school of thought are included to provide a broader context. The research methodology includes analyzing fatwa texts and reviewing relevant Islamic legal literature. The study reveals the diversity of interpretations and perspectives related to women's rights and obligations in Islam, and how they are adapted within Bruneian social and cultural contexts. The research also highlights differences and similarities between fatwas issued by Dr. Yusuf al-Qardhawiy, fatwas from the Brunei Royal Mufti, and the views of scholars from the Shafi'i school of thought. The practical and theoretical implications of these findings offer valuable insights for Bruneian society in understanding and implementing Islamic teachings related to women's rights and roles in society. In conclusion, the study provides a deeper understanding of the complexities and dynamics of fatwas related to women and their relevance in Islamic contexts such as Brunei Darussalam. Therefore, I hope this research will be beneficial for the general public in reading its contents and utilizing them.
