Abstract
This study was conducted due to the fact that many residents of Brunei-Muara are still unaware of the laws and regulations regarding the purification and prayer practices for the sick, possibly due to lack of exposure or only basic knowledge. Additionally, there is a portion of the community that trivializes the importance of purification and prayer, citing reasons such as illness or infirmity. Therefore, this study aims to provide exposure and clarification on the importance or obligation of performing obligatory prayers even in circumstances of infirmity. Furthermore, the researcher will explain the procedures for purification if some or all the limbs involved in ablution are bandaged due to illness or otherwise, as well as the prayer methods for the sick, such as those unable to stand, stand for long periods, perform bowing or prostration, prayer while seated, prayer in a reclining position, and prayer using gestures. Thus, this study utilizes three methodologies. Firstly, the library research method involves gathering information from sources such as jurisprudential books, exegesis, and so on. Additionally, this study employs a survey method, where several questions about purification and prayer practices are posed, requiring feedback from at least a hundred residents of Brunei-Muara. Subsequently, this survey is analyzed to achieve the desired objectives. Moreover, this study utilizes an interview method with the Religious Unit of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital (RIPAS). The findings from this study indicate that there are not many people in the community who are knowledgeable about the purification and prayer practices for the sick.
