Abstract
Halal Assurance System (HAS) is a system that maintains the integrity of halal food during the processing stage, resulting in the creation of halal and high-quality food. This system has helped in providing a systematic way to analyze, detect, and eliminate contaminations from the meat supply to safeguard the people. It has been used in the meat industry such as poultry farming to control meat production, animal husbandry, and to establish meat safety standards. Brunei Darussalam is a Muslim-majority country. Hence, the need for halal food specifically halal meat in this country is highly promising. On the other hand, halal meat has grown in popularity among both Muslim and non-Muslim customers due to the assurance of food safety, hygiene, and dependability. However, many farmers in Brunei Darussalam are unaware of the potential benefits of implementing HAS into their poultry farming operations. Moreover, there are some concerns or difficulties encountered when putting the system in place, especially in the process of getting halal certification. This study has been conducted to thoroughly examine the implementation of the HAS in poultry farming in Brunei Darussalam, by looking at the production process from the 'Farm to Table' concept, particularly the Halalan Thayyiban components, and then describe the benefits, as well as any challenges encountered on its implementation. Thus, this study focuses on aqualitative methodology approach where interviews will be done to gather data from informants, followed by adata analysis method which will then be analyzed, evaluated, and substantiated using primary and secondary sources such as books, articles, and other relevant materials. Findings from this research showed that poultry farming in Brunei Darussalam followed rules and regulations prescribed by the law and it showed that poultry farming has indeed indirectly applied the Halal Assurance System albeit not having a specific guideline on it.
