Abstract
The COVID-19 outbreak has had far-reaching effects on various aspects of human life, extending beyond health concerns to impact social and economic activities. Among the affected sectors, the restaurant industry has faced numerous challenges, including restrictions on social movements, stricter health protocols, and changes in pricing dynamics. This research aims to investigate the specific impact of the COVID- 19 outbreak on halal food restaurants in Brunei Muara district. The study also seeks to explore the strategies adopted by restaurant owners to mitigate these impacts and identify the necessary government support required in the event of future crises. An exploratory study was conducted, involving interviews with four respondents from different restaurants in Brunei Muara district. Thematic analysis was applied to analyse the gathered data, revealing two main areas of impact on Brunei halal food restaurants: financial and operational. The findings indicated the implementation of various strategies such as redesigning food packaging, shifting dine-in services to takeout and delivery services, using social media effectively, and utilizing halal certification as a marketing tool. Majority of the restaurants expressed the need for rental assistance from the government, along with suggested measures like wage subsidies, Antigen Rapid Test subsidies, and comprehensive guidelines for Standard Operating Procedures to ensure smooth operations in the future.
