Abstract

Zakat is one of the main economic resources for Islam. Efficient and systematic management of zakat is able to boost the potential of zakat as an instrument for the development of Muslims. The optimal utilization of zakat funds is indeed important to improve the quality and potential of every Muslim. In the Islamic economic system, one of the best ways to achieve balance in the distribution of wealth is through zakat, infaq and alms. Awareness to obey Allah's command regarding zakat, infaq and alms has been integrated as part of worship by Muslims, this can be seen from the high level of zakat, infaq and alms funds. Administration and Management of zakat in Brunei Darussalam is managed by the Brunei Darussalam Islamic Religious Council (MUIB). This study aims to find out about the effect of zakat in developing the quality of life of the Asnaf in Brunei Darussalam. In this study, the author uses a descriptive method that is the collection of information through interviews, books published by MUIB on zakat and articles such as Pelita Brunei, Media Permata as well as the latest information obtained through the internet. The information and data obtained will be analyzed according to the appropriate sections. From the results of the study, the author found that the effect of changes in living standards in most of the poor Asnaf in the country is improving through the high rate of zakat distribution compared to the rate of zakat distribution in neighboring countries. Here it can also be seen that the number of Asnaf Fakir Miskin in this country is not so many compared to neighboring countries. That is why the distribution rate in this country is also better than neighboring countries as explained in the writings obtained.
