Abstract

This research discusses the study of hadiths narrated in one of the famous Islamic Jurisprudence classical books in the Malay Archipelago namely Bughyah al-Tullāb Li Murid Ma’rifah al-Ahkām Bissawāb written by Sheikh Dāud bin Abdullāh al-Fatāni. The book comprises a large number of hadiths without mentioning its original sources. Therefore, this research aims to briefly highlight the biography of Syeikh Dāud Al- Fatāni and his significant book Bughyah al-Tullāb as well as to clarify the status of hadiths which were narrated in the Chapter of al-Hajj wal ‘Umrah in the second part of the book. Through this study, the researcher relied on two primary methodologies which are inductive and analytical approaches in order to extract the hadiths mentioned in the book, and later to be traced to its original sources, which then to identify the status of the hadiths based on the opinions and views of the traditional scholars, or the contemporary scholars in terms of acceptance and rejection. The research gathered a total of 113 hadiths mentioned in the Chapter of al-Hajj wal ‘Umrah and all of it are Ahādith Marfu’ah except one which is Mauqūfah. It also concluded that the status of 113 hadiths mentioned are categorized as follows; 75 Ahādith Maqbūlah (of which are accepted), 28 Ahādith Mardūdah (of which are rejected), 10 Ahādith of which are could not be found in its original sources. The researcher recommends, as a result of dealing the hadiths in the book, to other academic researchers to increase the study of hadiths that were narrated particularly in other classical books in the Malay Archipelago, henceforth to be published in academic writings and delivered in symposium or seminar to protect and preserve the holy Prophetic Traditions.
