Abstract

The research resolves the importance of spirituality in human life. Allah Subhanahu WaTa'la has created humanity perfect in nature whether materially and spiritually. Briefly, this research explains the origin of spirituality or Tasawwuf to correct the misunderstanding about tasawwuf, where some people said that Islamic spirituality originally came from Christian spirituality. This research will clarify the misunderstanding by answering these questions; What is spirituality? What is the meaning of spirituality from the view of Islam and Christianity? How do Islam and Christianity teach their spirituality? This research also aims to differentiate between Islamic spirituality and Christian spirituality. Hopefully, it will be able to resolve all doubts by elaborating Islamic referring to the Holy Qur'an and its translation, Hadith and its explanation, texts, journals which discuss matters to spirituality and Tasawwuf in Islam and its counterpart through a comparative study.
