Abstract
This scholarly training is a study of the customs of the Malays in Brunei and the extent to which it is compatible with Islamic law. The purpose of this scientific exercise is to describe the customs of the Bruneians in the chapter of marriage, birth and death, which is practiced by 7 Malays, Brunei, Kedayan, Tutong, Belait, Dusun, Murut and Bayah. This scientific training also discusses some of the Malay-speaking Malay traditions which are still practiced to this day. While the methodology used in this scientific study is a study of libraries which is more likely to references in libraries in Brunei Darussalam especially the library of the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, University Brunei Darussalam library, Darul Ifta 'library, the Central Library of the Da'wah Center and library of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka as well as some of their own observation information and interviews. This Scientific Review contains four clauses, in each clause of varying discussion: The first clause discusses the understanding of traditional and Islamic customs, terms and languages. The second clause discusses the customs and cultures of the people of Brunei according to history. The third clause discusses the practice of superstition in some of the customs of the people of Brunei and the fourth clause discusses the customs of the people of Brunei in the view of Islam. In conclusion, although Islam is the official religion of the people of Brunei, however, it is found that Bruneian Malays are still practicing customary, especially the elderly. Some of these customs are no longer practiced because of the passing of times and times, as well as those which are modified according to the requirements of the Islamic religion. The old ones are still defending the custom, while the young are only partially able to accept the custom.
