Abstract
In this study, it will discuss about the matters relating to the rules of ‘iddah in Islamic Fiqh. ‘Iddah term refers to a period of waiting by a woman on dissolution of her marriage after consummation or on the demise of her husband, it is an essential part of the marriage legal terms. In the present time, women that undergoes this period during marriage often lack of exposure and understanding. Hence, Women or widows that undergo this period are required to fully understand the rules of ‘iddah. In addition, performing the ‘iddah is different for women whom are left by their husband by death or divorced by their spouse. The method of research of this academic exercise is by referring to books and several references which are accurate and based on the opinions of several Islamic scholars, who amongst them are Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i and Hanbali. This academic exercise is divided into three chapters. First chapter will be focusing on the explanation in understanding of ‘iddah and the wisdom. Furthermore, the following chapter will be defining the types of ‘iddah in Islamic Fiqh. Lastly, the third chapter will be discussing on the rules relating to matters that are allowed or prohibited during iddah period. Moreover, other than strengthening our ability to understand the rules of ‘iddah in Islamic Fiqh, this academic exercise aims to fulfill the understandings and inquiries the rules of ‘iddah among Bruneians. It is hoped that the readers will benefit from this academic exercise.
