Abstract
Brunei Darussalam has taken an important step in the establishment of Islamic financial institutions after seeing its necessity to perform an obligatory claim of kifayah. After the establishment of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam on 7th july 2005, the Islamic way of banking was introduced to the public and among them was the contract of wadiah. This research discusses the wadiah contract that is used by the Islamic Bank of Brunei Darussalam. This contract is important for banking institutions therefore it’s compulsory for us to review and learn this contract in detail. Among the problems that was faced by Islamic Banks globally and BIBD was most users did not understand the function and role of wadiah. This research will also describe the law used by BIBD and the terms that have to be agreed by the customers. Literature review was used in this research and setting up interviews with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam. This research hopes to rise awareness to the public about the importance of Islamic Banking because wadiah is generally used by the societies in saving and security of property and money. Hopefully this research can be use as a reference and guidance for institutions and high schools, especially in Brunei Darussalam.
